Classically trained in the German tradition, Sue passes on classical techniques consistent with classical ideals. Sue will focus on developing a correct foundation, balance, correct application of the aids, lightness and self carriage for both horse and rider. Riders from Sue's programs have scored over 70% in USDF competition through third level and her teaching and training have produced an ARIA certified instructor, 2 USDF certified instructors, and a certified instructor/trainer from the International Academy for Equestrian Studies, Warendorf, Germany. Whether you are a rider or a trainer/instructor, whether you ride or audit, this clinic will have information helpful to you!
The main focus of Sue's teaching is studying and developing the interaction between horse and rider, and examining the physical, psychological, emotional influence they have on each other. Her instruction focuses on developing correct self carriage through balance and proper application of the aids. A brilliant instructor, Sue gives credit to Violet Hopkins, Karl Milkolka, Maj. Anders Lindgren and Col. Albrecht von Zeigner (a most highly respected and influential German master and classicist. Author of "Dressage Basics" and other texts). Sue brought von Zeigner to her farm in Michigan for many years) as the most influential teachers in her career. Sue also worked directly with Sally Swift for 7 years, and has attended Mary Wanless Instructor Seminars, USDF Instructors Workshops and international competitions. In addition to her experience as a rider and instructor, Sue has an excellent background in body awareness techniques like the Alexander Technique and Feldenkreis. Sue continues to travel extensively in the US and Canada as a clinician, known for her expertise in equestrian kinesthetics, including unmounted and mounted work, imagery, exercise, and biomechanics.
